A state of emergency is declared in Spain due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Faced with the wave of coronavirus infections, the Spanish government orders a state of emergency and activates a series of measures to limit the spread of the virus, including a ban on going out except to buy essential products, to go to work or for other reasons of force majeure. The emergency decree, announced by Pedro Sánchez the previous day, also centralises the autonomous communities’ powers in areas such as health and safety under the authority of the central government.
