The European Parliament officially announces that Puigdemont and Comín are MEPs

Breaches:

At the beginning of the first plenary session of the year, the president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, officially announces that Carles Puigdemont and Antoni Comín have been recognised as MEPs. The announcement is made with the two exiles present in the European Parliament. In order to become MEPs, they have given up their seats in the Parliament of Catalonia. Three days later, as part of the same session, Sassoli will announce the request to waive their immunity presented by Pablo Llarena, the Supreme Court’s investigating judge in the case against the leaders of the 1 October referendum, and the process will begin in the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs. Far-right Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki, from the same group as VOX and who also participated with VOX in an event in the European Parliament against the independence movement, is appointed rapporteur for the reports.
