Breaches:
The Constitutional Court finally rejects the appeal that Carles Puigdemont, Jordi Turull, Jordi Sànchez and the rest of the JxCat members ofParliament had brought against Pablo Llarena’s decision to imprison Turull on 23 March 2018, coinciding with his investiture as president of the Government of Catalonia. JxCat argues that it was a violation of the right to political participation. The Court’s decision on one of the organisers of the 1 October referendum comes almost two years after that plenary session, after Turull has already been sentenced by the Supreme Court, and despite the fact that the appeal had initially been accepted for consideration, thus preventing ECHR from analysing the issue of Turull’s pre-trial detention.
