The trial is held before the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, presided over by Manuel Marchena. The defendants are Oriol Junqueras, former vice-president of the Government of Catalonia;Jordi Turull, Raül Romeva, Josep Rull, Joaquim Forn, Dolors Bassa, Carles Mundó, Meritxell Borràs and Santi Vila, former ministers of the Government of Catalonia; Carme Forcadell, former president of the Parliament of Catalonia; Jordi Sànchez, former president of the ANC; and Jordi Cuixart, president of Òmnium Cultural. In Catalonia, various protests against the trial take place, organised by the ANC, Òmnium and the CDRs, among others.
