The Spanish government demands that Puigdemont clarify whether he has declared Catalonia’s independence

Breaches:

The Spanish government sends a request to President Carles Puigdemont to clarify whether he has declared Catalonia’s independence and, if so, to revoke it in order to ‘restore constitutional order.’ With the request, the government of the Spanish State is taking the first step in applying article 155 of the Constitution. Puigdemont responds to the request with a letter addressed to Mariano Rajoy that initiates an exchange of letters between the two. On 19 October, the Spanish government issues an official statement that the request had not been met and that the procedures to apply article 155 were continuing.
