Another blow to Judge Joaquín Aguirre’s investigation into Operation Volhov

The Prosecutor’s Office collides once again with the judge and requests the annulment of the ordinance by which the magistrate orders the Civil Guard to investigate a conversation between the director of the office of President Carles Puigdemont, Josep Lluís Alay and Russian businessman Aleksander Dmitrenko in case it might contain evidence of illegal financing of a political party. In a very harsh assessment, the prosecutor claims that Judge Aguirre’s investigation is completely prospective, and that not cancelling the ordinance would be tantamount to ’empowering the authorities to investigate anything and anyone in case any sort of crime might have been committed.’ After claiming that this is a prospective investigation, the prosecutor also requests that the investigation be terminated.
