Citizen Lab and The New Yorker uncover CatalanGate

Breaches:

The research group of the University of Toronto CitizenLab and Ronan Farrow, a journalist from The New Yorker, publish two articles in which they expose ‘CatalanGate,’ an operation through which at least 65 politicians, activists and pro-independence lawyers were spied on through Pegasus and/or Candiru softwares. Among the victims are MEPs Toni Comín, Jordi Solé and Diana Riba; the lawyer Gonzalo Boye; and people close to former president Carles Puigdemont and MEP Clara Ponsatí. The list of victims also includes the president of the Government of Catalonia Pere Aragonès; former president Quim Torra and people close to Jordi Cuixart. The experts claim that there is enough evidence to conclude that the Spanish State is behind the operation.
