The Supreme Court opens an oral trial against the CUP member of the Parliament of Catalonia Eulàlia Reguant for an alleged crime of serious disobedience to the authority for refusing to answer VOX’s questions in the trial against the leaders of the 1 October referendum. The Examining Magistrate’s Court no. 10 of Madrid, which had been assigned the case, referred the case of Eulàlia Reguant to the Supreme Court, due to her parliamentary privilege. The case of Antonio Baños, who also refused to answer, is still in the courts of Madrid after the Examining Magistrate’s Court no. 10 of Madrid opened an oral trial against him in April 2021. The Supreme Court had initially scheduled the trial against Reguant on 1 March but suspended it since jurisdiction dictated that the investigation should have been completed by the Supreme Court and not an examining magistrate’s court. The Prosecutor’s Office calls for four months in prison and a special disqualification of the right to be eligible for office, and the Supreme Court has set a trial date for 28 September.
