Jordi Serracant announces that proceedings have been opened against him for a satirical tweet about the situation of Catalan at school

Breaches:

Serracant posted a tweet in December 2021 in which he said: ‘I’ve got my meat of a Spanish-speaking child ready to make cannelloni.’ VOX reported the tweet to the Prosecutor’s Office, and a private individual and the Spanish associations Asamblea por una Escuela Bilingüe, Movimiento contra la Intolerancia and Hablamos Español joined them. The Examining Magistrate’s Court no. 12 of Barcelona opens preliminary proceedings for alleged crimes of causing injury to dignity for discriminatory reasons and against moral integrity. The proseciton believes that Serracant posted the tweet in order to make fun of the minor from the Canet school, in the wake of the 25% sentence. The lawyers consider the investigation to be ‘prospective,’ given that the case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Mossos d’Esquadra in cooperation with the Hate Crimes Prosecutor’s Office into about forty tweeters. The case includes four more people being investigated for other tweets and 36 others have already been shelved.
