The Spanish king threatens the Catalans on live television

Dovetailing with the mass general strike on 3 October, King Felipe VI of Spain delivers a televised speech in which he accuses the government of Catalonia of ‘unacceptable disloyalty’ and of being ‘on the margins of law and democracy.’ The monarch also warns that given the ‘extremely serious’ situation in Catalonia, the ‘legitimate powers of the State’ must ensure ‘constitutional order.’
