The Sardinian court puts the European Arrest Warrant procedure against Puigdemont on hold, pending the European justice system’s response

Breaches:

Carles Puigdemont appears before the Court of Appeal of Sassari (Sardinia) in the extradition proceedings initiated against him following his arrest on the island on 23 September, in execution of the European Arrest Warrant issued by the investigating judge of the 1 October case, Pablo Llarena. The court decides to suspend the decision until the Court of Justice of the European Union takes a stance, on the one hand, regarding the preliminary questions raised by Llarena and, on the other, regarding the appeal in relation to the lifting of Puigdemont’s immunity in the European Parliament. On the other hand, Llarena warns the Italian justice system that the European Arrest Warrants against Antoni Comín and Clara Ponsatí, who have travelled to Sardinia to support Puigdemont, are also active, but at no point are they arrested. Puigdemont, Comín and Ponsatí once again ask the General Court of the European Union to restore their immunity as a precautionary measure given Llarena’s attempts to extradite them.
