The Constitutional Court rejects the appeal for protection filed by Artur Mas against the sentence of the 9 November consultation

The Constitutional Court dismisses the appeal presented by former president Artur Mas against the sentence issued by the Supreme Court, which confirmed the sentence of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia for the organisation of the events of 9 November consultation, sentencing Mas for a crime of disobedience to a penalty of 13 months of disqualification and a fine of 36,000 euros. On 25 October, Joana Ortega and Irene Rigau dismissed the appeals against the same sentence, which sentenced them, respectively, to 9 months of disqualification and a 31,000 euro fine, and to 6 months of disqualification and a 24,000 euro fine. Mas will appeal against the decision before the European Court of Human Rights, but, in May 2024, it will be dismissed due to the lack of response from his lawyer in the submissions of observations stage before the ECHR.
