The Supreme Court rejects the recusal presented by Jordi Sànchez against the judge hearing his appeal

Breaches:

Magistrate Francisco Monterde, vice-president of the Asociación Profesional de la Magistratura (a conservative association of judges) is appointed speaker forJordi Sànchez’s appeal against permission being denied for him to participate in the electoral campaign for the Catalan elections. Sànchez submits a recusal based on the ‘animosity’ that the association had shown against independence. The recusal is not admitted and on 15 February, the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court dismisses Sànchez’s appeal. On 11 May he presents an appeal for protection in relation to both the denial of permits and the rejection of the recusal. This is admitted by the Constitutional Court on 17 July.
