Barcelona Provincial Court acquits an independentist that caused the blindness of a former legionnaire that assaulted him

Breaches:

On 11 September 2022, an independentist punched and caused the blindness of a former legionnaire that had previously assaulted him in Vilanova i la Geltrú. The Hate Crimes Prosecutor’s Office had requested 4 years in prison and 103.000 euros of damages to the victim. For the former legionnaire it requested 2 and a fine of 13.350 euros. The former legionnaire, without any previous argument or provocation reprimanded him and told him, inter alia, that he would kill him. They ignored him but the former legionnaire hit the independentist on his back, hit him in the face that made one of his glass lenses break and got stuck into the eye of the former legionnaire. The Barcelona Provincial Court acquits him as it considers that he acted in self-defense and sentences the former legionnaire to two years in prison for injuries, with the aggravating factor of ideological discrimination and won’t be able to approach or contact the victim during two years.
