Case against former mayor of Castelló d’Empúries Salvi Güell for 1 October independence referendum is dismissed

Breaches:

Former mayor Salvi Güell (ERC) was under investigation for disobedience and for the crime of corrupt practice for his role in the organization of the 1 October referendum, after the Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit in 2019. The Prosecutor’s Office wanted to make him responsible for opening polling stations. Now, Figueres First Instance and Investigating Court number 6 considers that neither Güell opened the spaces to carry out this activity nor did he enable someone else to do so. It is unknown who did it”. In addition, the judge considers that the mayor’s decree issued does not amount to a crime, but to a “political and ideological manifestation, that did not have any practical effects”.
