Five young independentists are tried for their participation in a protest in support of President Quim Torra and sentences 2 of them

Breaches:

On 28 September 2020, CDR Barcelonès called a demonstration against the disqualification of President Quin Torra. According to the accusation of the Public Prosecutor’s, that night, Dani and Fèlix burnt a dumpster in ronda Sant Pere. Arnau, Pol and Alexandre would have allegedly burnt another one between Bruc and Ausiàs Marc streets. For said events, the Prosecutor’s Office asks for 5 years in prison to each one of them, for the crime of public disorders. In the course of the trial, the Prosecutor’s Office admits that they are ‘aware of the lack of quality of the accusation’, since, inter alia, in the facts set forth by the Prosecutor there are no elements that prove the accusation of public disorders. Finally, the Prosecutor’s Office keeps the request of 3 years in prison for this crime and 2 more years for the crime of damages. In November, Barcelona Provincial Court sentences 2 to a year in prison, that won’t have to serve, to pay 400 euros and acquits the rest. Alerta Solidària association announces that the convictions will be appealed with images of the Mossos d’Esquadra themselves that contradict the agent’s version.
