El País photojournalist Albert Garcia is arrested at a protest against the conviction of the leaders of the 1 October referendum

The National Police arrest El País photojournalist Albert Garcia for an alleged crime of attacking law enforcement officers during the protests in Plaça Urquinaona against the conviction of the leaders of the 1 October referendum. Garcia, who was wearing a press credential from the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya on his arm, had been taking photos of officers who were beating up a young protester. Early in the morning, he is released pending charges. He reports humiliation during his detention at the Via Laietana police station and irregularities in relation to his statement before the investigating judge.
