Firefighters of the Parc de Girona go to court for the alleged crimes of embezzlement and unjustified absence from the workplace

Breaches:

The Second Examining Magistrate’s Court of Girona initiated proceedings in 2019 against three firefighters and two superior offices of the Fire Department of the Parc de Girona accused by the Prosecutor’s Office of the crimes of embezzlement of public funds and unjustified absence from the workplace. They are being investigated along with other firefighters following a report issued by the Civil Guard for having staged a protest in front of their headquarters on the day after 1 October, in protest against the police violence that took place on the day of the vote. Some of the people under investigation testified on 20 November 2020. During the statements, two of those investigated said that they were on sick leave on 2 October 2017, while three others stated that they were not working on that day, resulting in the case being reduced to eight firefighters. In the course of the investigation, the mobiles of the accused were seized, despite these having been acquired after the date of the events and therefore not containing any relevant information. In addition to this, during the investigation, one of the accused was not summoned to testify because the judge mistook them for another fireman with the same first name. In May 2022, the Prosecutor requests a trial by jury.
