Pardon requests are submitted for those convicted for the 1 October referendum

Breaches:

Lawyer Francesc Jufresa sends the Ministry of Justice a pardon request for the 12 individuals convicted in the ruling against the independence process, both those sentenced to prison terms (Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull, Dolors Bassa, Joaquim Forn, Josep Rull, Carme Forcadell, Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart) and those who were not (Meritxell Borràs, Carles Mundó and Santi Vila). The lawyer believes that the ruling poses serious unresolved problems regarding a lack of impartiality in the preliminary investigation phase and on the part of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, in addition to a serious impact on the proportionality of the sentences. On 15 June 2020, the UGT trade union also requests a pardon for Bassa, and on 24 August 2020, the former presidents of the Catalan Parliament, Joan Rigol, Ernest Benach and Núria de Gispert, do the same for Forcadell. Other individuals and organisations also make pardon requests, such as the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai for Turull.
