The Attorney General of the State, José Manuel Maza, instructs the Prosecutor’s Offices of Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida and Girona to investigate, and summon to testify 712 mayors who have signed a decree to make available to the government of Catalonia the municipal premises necessary to hold the referendum scheduled for 1 October

The State Attorney General’s Office (Maza) states that these acts may be indicative of the crimes of disobedience, prevarication and embezzlement of public funds. The Prosecutor’s Office also instructs them to agree to arrest the mayors who do not show up to testify. During the coming days and weeks, many of the 712 mayors will be summoned and begin to testify before different Prosecutors’ Offices throughout Catalonia.
