The former president of the Basque Parliament, Juan María Atutxa, is convicted

Breaches:

The Supreme Court convicts the former president of the Basque Parliament Juan María Atutxa and the former members of the Kontxi Bilbao and Gorka Knorr Bureau for a crime of disobedience for not having dissolved the Sozialista Abertzaleak parliamentary group. The sentence comes after the appeal by the far-right association Manos Limpias against the acquittal ruling of the Basque Country Supreme Court handed down in January 2007. In fact, the Supreme Court had already acquitted them in 2003 on the understanding that they had parliamentary immunity, but Manos Limpias appealed to the Supreme Court, which ruled that the High Court of Justice had to rule on the merits of the matter. Those convicted are submitting appeals for protection to the Constitutional Court.
