The leaders of the 1 October referendum issue a recusal against certain Supreme Court judges for various incompatibilities

Breaches:



Jordi Sànchez, Jordi Turull and Josep Rull submit a recusal against the president and four magistrates from the the Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber which will give judgement on the October 1 referendum case: Manuel Marchena, Andrés Martínez Arrieta, Juan Ramón Berdugo Gómez de la Torre and Luciano Varela Castro. These are the magistrates who had initially accepted the Prosecutor Office’s complaint in October 2017. Later, Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Carme Forcadell, Jordi Cuixart, Dolors Bassa, Carles Puigdemont, Clara Ponsatí and Lluís Puig also sumbit recusals. Instruction concerning the recusal corresponds to the Magistrate of the Criminal Chamber Vicente Magro Servet, former senator of the PP. Oriol Junqueras and Raúl Romeva also issue a recusal against him for acting as a judge. On 25 August, magistrate Vicente Magro Servet dismisses the recusal filed against him and closes the investigation against the members of the of the Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber who need to judge the case and send it to the Special Chamber at the Supreme Court responsible for hearing recusals.
