The magistrate of the Constitutional Court, Antonio Narváez, asks to abstain from the resolution of the political prisoners’ appeals for protection

Breaches:

The magistrate presents a brief to the members of the court after the prisoners demand that he be recused following the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the trial on the independence process, proposing that he be excluded from the resolution of the case. By doing so, the magistrate hopes that his abstention will ‘demonstrate the independence and impartiality of the Constitutional Court.’ The plenary session of the Constitutional Court accepts his decision. Narváez had described the 1 October referendum as a ‘covert coup d’état’ at a colloquium held in Granada in 2017.
