The trial against the 1 October Electoral Commission begins

The Criminal Court No. 11 of Barcelona notifies the five members of the Electoral Commission for the 1 October referendum (Jordi Matas, Tània Verge, Marta Alsina, Marc Marsal and Josep Pagès) that the case against them for disobedience and abuse of power has been sent to trial. The Prosecutor’s Office is calling for two years and nine months in prison, in addition to a fine and disqualification from public office. The embezzlement charge is dropped. The trial will be postponed several times due to the coronavirus crisis and will not be held until March 2021.
