The World Organisation Against Torture calls for the conviction of Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sànchez to be overturned

Breaches:

In a letter addressed to the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez; the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet; the Prosecutor General; the president of the Constitutional Court; and the State Attorney’s Office, the secretary-general of the organisation, Gerald Staberock, calls for the Spanish state to overturn the sentences of Òmnium present Jordi Cuixart and the former president of the ANC, Jordi Sànchez, given their ‘disproportionate’ nature; for the enforcement of the sentences be suspended until the Constitutional Court rules on the appeals for protection; and for the crime of sedition to be revised. In the letter, Staberock states that the ruling against the leaders of the 1 October referendum came after two years of ‘arbitrary’ detentions and that the case should have been tried before a court in Catalonia, where the events took place, rather than the Supreme Court.
