The case against the mayor and pro-independence municipal councillors of Reus is dropped

Breaches:

The Provincial Court of Tarragona decrees the dismissal of the case against the mayor of Reus, Carles Pellicer, and the former municipal councillors Montserrat Vilella (PDeCAT), Noemí Llauradó (ERC), Mariona Quadrada (CUP) and Jordi Cervera (Ara Reus) for the alleged crimes of inciting hatred and offences against the moral integrity of agents of the National Police. They were accused of signing a statement condemning police violence and calling for the departure of the National Police agents sent to Catalonia within the framework of Operation Copernicus. Up to twenty people who had demonstrated peacefully in front of the hotel where the agents were staying were investigated. The Court argues that both the demonstration and the rallies in front of the Gaudí Hotel were part of a context of ‘political controversy’ and that they are protected by the right to freedom of expression. The case was initiated by a report filed by the National Police and Ciudadanos.
