The Central Electoral Board agrees to strip Quim Torra of his seat following his conviction for disobedience by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia for not having removed a banner with a yellow ribbon from the balcony of the Palace of the Government of Catalonia during the April 2019 general election campaign as the Central Electoral Board itself had demanded. This settles the appeal presented by Ciudadanos, PP and VOX against Provincial Electoral Board of Barcelona’s decision concluding that it could not strip Torra of his seat until the sentence was final. Torra appeals the Central Electoral Board’s decision before the Supreme Court and asks for a precautionary suspension of the removal of his seat. The next day an extraordinary plenary session of Parliament is held where a resolution ratifying Torra as an MP and president is passed, withJxCat, ERC, En Comú-Podem and CUP voting in favour.
